Equality in the Work Place

Men have constantly ruled the work place with women being payed 80 cents on average for every dollar for the same job that men do.

Women are constant facing biases and work hardships, and with those hardships there has been a larger push for female workers starting their own businesses to try and start getting the respect and same treatment that they clearly deserve. Since, 1997 there has been a 3000% increase from 5.4 million women starting up there own businesses to 12.3 million in 2018. But even with that women receive 31% less money than their male peers.

We have seen this discussion constantly throughout the news, even with some females suing large corporations to demand their equal rights and be valued as equals. Many of these cases are hard to prove in court which makes many women hesitant on coming forward. We as a community support the fact that equal pay should be a key corner stone of our society. No matter who you work for the companies need to take responsibility to mandate equal pay and treatment.

Don’t you think treating people with the same amount of respect and recognition is a sign of our societies values? It’s what were all looking for isn’t it?

  1. Hello, Alex! My name is Ms. Blair and I have been observing your class for the past few weeks. I will also be student teaching in your class this winter. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your classmates throughout this school year!

Your discussion of the gender pay gap calls values like equality and fairness into question. When our reality contradicts our values, it can cause the sort of tension you illustrate in your post. Can you think of any other situations where reality contradicts the values of a community or society?
